The forecast of heavy rain and temps in the low 40’s guided some of the more rational minded PAX in the Churham market to a fast paced climate control workout at the Goat (according to the Twitter handle, records were broken!). However, 10 thick-skulled individuals who relish the type of punishment the Vortex offers weekly appeared in the gloom at 0530 for the Tuesday morning beat down.

The warm up:
Typical 400 m warm-up AKA speed lap.
SSH X 30
Air Squats X 15
Arm circles forward and reverse X 10
And to get everyone accustomed to the cold wet 10 burpees OYO

One more speed lap since a couple PAX rolled in late and missed the first one.

The PAX headed for the playground and got in pairs for a nickel and dime pain rotation through 5 stations. The stations included 2 nickel and dime stations (5 pull-ups, 10 merkins), dips (at least 20 reps), air squats (x20) and the ‘rest station’. The PAX cycled through this circuit 5 times which yielded 50 pull-ups, 100 merkins, 100 air squats, 100 dips. The rest station rotated through SSH, Carolina dry docks, burpees, wide grip merkins and jump lunges.

Feeling that we have some what neglected the lower body exercises the PAX headed for the walls of the bathhouse and performed a loonnnngggg wall sit (at least a 100 count). Back to the arms as there was time for the ascending testicles with 10 derkins with feet slightly above parallel on the wall, 7 with feet at 45 degrees and less than 5 derkins with feet as close to vertical as possible. These were tough!

To the field for the main event. In honor of the Daytona 500 the group was divided into 3 teams (2 teams of 3, and 1 team of 4). The event was a wheel barrow race around one soccer field. One PAX had to be wheel barrowing, one was driving and the other was following behind with cinder block fully extended (the team of 4 had 2 with cinder blocks). The teams rotated through as muscle failure set in and it ended up being a long trip around the field.

A quick round of Mary 20 Russian Hammers and 50 Cadre Phil flutter kicks. Hats off to the guys who keep showing up in adverse conditions and putting out the effort. Hopefully, it will be raining and cold next Tuesday!
