Speed for Need Signup – City of Oaks Marathon and 5K

F3 Raleigh City of Oaks Speed for Need – This Sunday!

F3 Raleigh PAX,

Here’s your opportunity to participate in Speed for Need, at this weekend’s City of Oaks Marathon/10K/5K!

We’ve got a couple of marathon relay teams pushing one of the Track Commanders (Dark Knight), but it now looks like we’ll have 3 other Track Commanders for the 5K.  There are about 15 pax signed up for the 5K (28 pax total), so it would be nice to get a few more and beat the F3 Churham total of 30 for the Tarheel Ten Miler earlier this year. 🙂

The plan is to meet in the Vann Attorneys’ Parking lot at 0630, on Sunday morning, 11/4/2018.

There is a discount code (VANATTORNEYS) shown on the spreadsheet that is still good through the end of the week.

2019 F3 Nation Mission Trip to Chimbote, Peru

Men, I am asking for your help on behalf of the F3 Nation Mission Trip to Peru Team.
I have emailed 1 person from every region here to post to their Slack channel and to submit for insertion in the next regional newsletter. So if you’re on here, there should not be any duplication of efforts.  We all appreciate you doing this.

2019 F3 Nation Mission Trip to Chimbote, Peru

Ever felt like even though you have everything, something’s still missing?  This trip could be it.  It will strip you down to the raw you.  Walls will come down.  Emotions will come out.  Bonds will be formed.  Why Chimbote, Peru?  Sometimes you’ve got to go down range to get out of your comfort zone, and while this is pretty far down range, there’s a magic to this tiny fishing village that’s very hard to find.  All of our material wealth combined cannot buy the joy and faith you will see in these people.

But even with this joy and faith, there’s a definite need for what F3 Nation has to offer.  Like a lot of poor places, male community leadership is sorely lacking.  This trip grew from 6 F3 men the year before to 27 this past January, and changed the life of every one of them.  Here’s a link to a video from last year’s trip F3 Mission Chimbote 2018 (  We’re going back, and this time we’re expanding it to 2 weeks so even more men across F3 Nation can join, and we hope you will be one of them.  Groups are forming now, and we are about half full capacity.

New Locations for Bear Trap and Injured Reserve

Exciting news for a couple of our non-running AOs – Bear Trap and Injured Reserve are moving!

  • Beginning Monday, 10/29, Bear Trap will meet at North Hills Park, the same site as our Monday North Hills AO.
  • Also coming up on Wednesday, 10/31, Injured Reserve will now meet at the J.C. Penny parking lot, same as Urban Jungle.
  • Both workouts will still begin at 0545 – that’s not changing.

PAX may still sign up to Q. If there is a good number of non-running PAX (say, 4 or more) the Q will simply split off after warm up with the NH or UJ Q for the non-running workout. And, if there are 4 or less they can collectively decide to join NH or UJ respectively or even go ahead with a non-running workout. The key is that there will be an option for non-runners.

F3 Raleigh and Healing Transitions “Thank a Village”

Healing Transitions

F3 and Healing Transitions “Thank a Village”

Healing Transitions has invited the PAX of F3 Raleigh to take part in a large group photo they are taking on the big field in Dix Park, on Tuesday, September 25th at 4:30pm.

The photo is a response to the national recovery month challenge issued by Faces and Voices of Recovery.  The challenge is “Thank a Village”, where people in recovery are to take a picture with someone from their village who has helped them.  Healing Transitions is taking a picture that will say “We are Your Village” and they are trying to get as many groups to be a part of that pic as possible – and want F3 in our area to be a part of it. Come on out, and be a part of it!

To clarify: This is not a Healing Transitions event or photo. This is an idea the came out of community collaboration and discussion. It is an idea for a unified show of support from everyone in the community who plays a role in caring for those in active addiction, providing for those as they initiate recovery, and supporting those in building a life in recovery.

As we come to the close of September and National Recovery Month, the community is coming together to show their support for those in recovery and those in need of recovery from substance use disorders. For National Recovery Month Faces and Voices of Recovery, the nation’s leading recovery advocacy organization, issued the “Thank a Village Challenge.” In response we are organizing a “We Are Your Village” photo. In the midst of this Nation’s greatest public health crisis, this is the perfect opportunity for us to come together and in a unified voice say to those in recovery and those in need of recovery “We are your village and we are here for you.”

WHO: F3 Raleigh, SouthWake, Carpex, NE Wake, and Churham PAX, plus many other groups supporting HT (see below!)

WHAT: A big group photo of Healing Transitions clients, and F3 men supporting our HT brothers

WHEN: Tuesday, 9/25/18, 4:30 PM ET

WHERE: The photo will take place at the Flower Cottage at Dix Park (2105 Umstead Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603) with the City skyline in the background.

Map #1 is a larger aerial map with Central Prison and Healing Transitions as landmarks. Map #2 is a close-up of Flower Cottage and the parking lot that is across the street. Parking is accessible spaces marked with green lines. You can also park at Healing Transitions Men’s Campus and ride over on a passenger van.

WHY: To support our brothers in recovery!
