20 PAX showed up at the Vortex on a balmy last Tuesday of November for a post-Thanksgiving weekend back-to-reality workout. Props to the 3 PAX on the EC ruck! There is real talk and I think more than a few HCs for an upcoming January GoRuck event; it is amazing the strength of peer pressure within this group! So if you can easily be coerced, visit the GoRuck site, join the challenge, buy a ruck, and start getting after it.
Typical Warm up: lap around the field, 50 SSH, imperial walkers, Hillbillies, windmills, arm circles (front and back).
PAX headed to the corner of soccer field for an escalating 4 corners trifecta of exercises. The series was sprint to opposite corner, 5 burpees, 10 merkins, 15 air squats which was easy. Sprint to 2nd corner, 10 burpees, 20 merkins, 30 squats, still relatively easy. Sprint to 3rd corner, 15 burpees, 30 merkins, 45 air squats, not easy. Sprint to start point, 20 burpees, 40 merkins, 60 air squats…bad idea!
Now that everyone was properly warmed up, we divided up into 4 teams of 5 PAX.
Station 1:
Team 1 was assigned 240 lbs of coupons consisting of dumbbells, sand bags (courtesy of Coco) ranging from 30 lbs to 60 lbs., and a 45 lb ruck. Their goal was to move the coupons 800 meters as fast as possible.
Station 2:
Team 2 conducted a merkin pyramid 1 to 10 and back down 10 to 1 and then continued with WWII’s until the other groups finished.
Station 3:
Were to bear crawl to the 18-yd line on soccer field, sprint to opposite 18-yd line and then bear crawl to end line. Repeato, repeato, repeato. A few PAX even tried different animal crawls for variation.
Station 4:
Team 4 headed to playground for 3 sets max pull-ups and 100 cadence-count dips.
The different teams rotated through all 4 stations but poor time management by YHC limited some folks from getting the full experience at each station and also prevented Mary and the infamous flutter kicks.
