Pulled into Apex Nature Park to find 5 or 6 PAX already gathered in front of the shelter, a couple of them having done some EC already. As I made my traditional greetings around the circle, I encountered a couple of new (to me) faces. You know, just Pet Sounds and Monkey Nut…whoa, back it up. I must know the origins of those names. By the time 0545 rolled around, we had 17 with a couple of cars coming in on 2 wheels. No matter, we gone.

Warm-Up

Jog down toward the end of the parking lot by the maintenance shack and down the as of now still mulched trail to a flattish grass area and circle up. Out of the gloom appears Fluoride. 5 penalty burpees for everyone. ‘Bout that time, Khakis appeared out of the gloom. 5 more penalty burpees, followed by:

  • 10 x GM IC
  • 20 x SSH IC
  • 35 x Merkins
  • 15 x Plank Jacks IC

It’s football season, so we did 8 or 9 UP/DOWNs. Chop ’em boys! Broke out the whistle for this one, much to Hot Spot’s chagrin. I picture Hot Spot going door to door apologizing for the noise we’re making on Friday mornings. They’ll get over it Hot Spot

The Thang

Jog back up the as of now still mulched trail to the official paved running trail at the bottom of the hill along Evans Road.

AYG UP the hill, do 10 star jumps, run back DOWN the hill, do 10 merkins, and chill cut plank hold until everyone finishes + a couple of 10 counts

Jog over to the first soccer field. We must re-christen this grassy area as a real football field, so let’s do some more UP/DOWNs. There. Now, it’s a football field (well, except for all the red rectangular boxes and semi-circles in the corners. But we can use that to our advantage for the Nautilus (trademark Beaker). Army Crawl side to side, Bear Crawl on the North-South direction around the perimeter of ever-expanding concentric rectangles, starting with the goalie box, then to whatever the hell the next biggest box is, then the perimeter of the half field. Who knew bear crawls could actually be a recovery exercise? Army crawls suck. I would have told you to bring long sleeves but didn’t think about it because Ma Bell doesn’t have sleeves. On any shirt. Plank it out until everyone is back, then we’ll jog around the perimeter of the entire field to complete the Nautilus.

After some more planking, jog over to the other field  and line up along the sidewalk at the base of what is quite possibly the steepest hill in the kingdom of Carpex. Run up the hill, touch a tree, and come back down (carefully), do 10 merkins, then squat hold – with pulses of course.
Repeato.

Jog across the field, find an opening somewhere in the fence. Apparently, there are two, across the parking lot and to the shelter for:

  • 20 x alternating L/R Step-UPs (and DOWNs) – Clap em if you got em
  • 20 x Dips IC
  • 20 x upward facing picnic table merkins (aka Irkins) IC
  • 15 x Alt L/R Step-Ups
  • 15 x Dips IC
  • 15 x Irkins IC

Back to the parking lot and circle up for some Captain Thors – Big Boy Sit-Ups followed by a multiple of 4 Hammers. We got up to 5 and 20. Aaaaaand we’re done.

NMS

It was an honor and a pleasure to lead you boys today. Strong work by all.

I still can’t get over the names Pet Sounds and Monkey Nut. Classic.

I swear if Nature Boy only had a cape today, it would have completed his superhero outfit

I wonder what super hero he would be. Lycra Man? Captain Hamhock?

Oh wait, Nature Boy sounds kinda like a super hero name. Or the sidekick to one anyway.

But I digress.

Nobody spilled merlot. Dammit. I want to make somebody throw up. It’s not fair!

Hot Spot, seriously dude. We’re far enough away from any houses. Nobody who’d not already up is gonig to hear us.

YHC asked Sky Blue to give us a 10 count in an American accent. He counted in Spanish. Touche, Sky Blue, touche.

Those semi-circle thingys in the corners of the soccer fields sure are cute.

There was a whole lotta grunting going on during the dips. Methinks we need some more arm work. Your Ms will thank me.
