The inspiration for this workout came from enjoying way too many labyrinths and the desire to mix it up with some more creativity. I may be known for taking creativity a little overboard from time to time, just look back at F3 GO and ask the guys about carrying their phones around with them during a workout. I found a website where someone devised a boot camp workout with a maze. After making adaptations and figuring out the best way to fit our style, I came up with the following. Enjoy and feel free to share.

WARMUP:

  • 40 X SSH
  • 10 X Good Mornings
  • 10 X Don Quixote/Windmills
  • 10 X Helicopters
  • 20 X Sir Fazio FWD – HOLD IT
  • 20 X Sir Fazio BKD – HOLD IT
    25 X Moroccan Night Clubs

THE THANG:

  • 1st RUN to trail corner and planked until the six caught up

  • 2nd RUN to the rock pile to pick a pet rock

  • 15 (cadence) X Curls

  • 3rd RUN with Rocks to the Track & Field

THE AMAZING MAZE OF MISERYHere is where things get interesting!

  • OBJECTIVE = complete all 6 levels of the maze before the other teams to receive the prize.
  • Each team of two pax were given a color (green, yellow, pink, or orange) beforehand and asked to keep it secret from the other teams. Each color has only one path through the maze that they must discover through a series of choices.
  • Each team then sprints from the base line (where they leave their pet rocks) to the first level of cones and selects a cone with an exercise and number of reps written on it. The pax then return to the baseline (baseline is always where the exercises will be completed) to complete the exercise with correct number of reps.
  • After the exercise is complete the team sprints back to the cone and looks underneath the cone at the colored sticker. If it matches the team color they have found the correct path and can proceed to the next level. If not, they have found a dead-end and therefore, must backtrack by sprinting back to the base line then back to the previous level of cones to select a new exercise from the remaining cones. (Teams will never go down a level, only get stuck on a level until the correct path is discovered)
  • This continues for each of the six levels. Completing the sixth and final level means you have made it out of the maze.
  • After completing the maze Pax ran laps around the track until all finished or time was called (~40 mins).
  • The layout of the maze was as follows:

MARY:

  • ROCK PILE SIT-UP ASSEMBLY LINE – All rocks were placed in a pile at one end of the field. Pax sat on their six alternating direction. Q called cadence and the pax proceeded to do WWII style sit-ups while the Q slowly passed the rocks down the line. Each pax did one sit-up with the rock before passing to the next pax. This continued until all the rocks reached the other side.
  • We then ran the rocks back to the rock pile ditch and proceeded to mosey back to the flag where the pax stretched until everyone returned.

COT:

YHC explained that every day our life is full of choices. Sometimes we make poor choices and other times we make bad choices. Some choices are made in wisdom and others in a lack of wisdom or stupidity. Other times we just don’t know the outcome of a choice until it happens. While, making wise choices is important, we will still make poor choices and face the consequences. The true measure of a HIM is his ability to pick himself back up, with the help of his brothers, and forging forward. We must be persistent in life and continue the race laid out before us.

MOLESKIN:

  • Nice to have Pearl Jam join us since he just posted his first time with a friend in Charlotte and was dumb…I mean brave enough to look us up and join the fun. Hope to see him on a regular basis
  • Lucky truly lives up to his name. He made it to Level 4 of the maze before making a mistake. You may think that have YHC and Master of the Maze with him gave him an edge, but I still testify that I did not make any choices, plus that is giving my memory way too much credit!!!
  • Lucky won the prize, the cheese at the end of the maze, though he was cutting said cheese long before the completion of the maze. YHC did not partake in the spoils of victory to avoid visiting the hospital!
  • Four out of the six teams made it out of the Amazing Maze of Misery while the last two teams were eaten by the Minotaur…we will miss them!
  • Bi-Lo came for the EC but slipped away. We gave him a pass due to a newborn and M seeking assistance.
