The PAX were in a celebratory mood in spite of the humidity.  Upon arrival, Joule pulls two five foot by four inch PVC “candles” from his vehicle that he and Pepe assembled to commemorate his fellow site Q, Les Nessman’s, birthday.  By candles, YHC means slush pipes filled with sand and gravel.

The Thang
Rucks, slush pipes, kettle bell, and headlamps on and down the trail we went.  We passed by what YHC has dubbed the overgrown field of geese (formerly soccer field) to a field where the grass had been mowed in the past month.  For a warm up:

Squats x 20
Imperial Walkers x 15
Good Mornings x 15
Merkins x 10

Load up, forming two lines and ruck around Shelley Lake, through the parking lot on the upper end of Millbrook, down to the earthen dam.  The slush pipes were rotated among the PAX.

As we crossed the earthen dam, a group of men and women were gathered in the overgrown field of geese.  This sight could only be explained as a #sadclown bootcamp convergence consisting of walking lunges, since nary a one of them appeared to be smiling.  We passed by carrying our loads, smiles on our faces, and extended a hearty “good morning” to our fellow park occupants.  There was mention of a Gnard Dogg sighting, but there’s no way that was possible.  Again, no smiles and no music, hence no Gnard Dogg.

Back to the clearing beyond the field of geese:
Reverse LBCs with Ruck Overhead x 15
Flutter Kick with Ruck Overhead x 15
American Hammers without Rucks x 20
Ruck back to the parking lot passing a running herd of aforementioned #sadclowns who turned and ran away as we approached.  Roughly 2.8 miles under ruck covered.

COT
Before a count off and nameorama, we planked with our rucks on to offer a stirring rendition of happy birthday in honor of Les Nessman’s 26th lap around the big ball.  Strong prayer by Cinderella to close us out and prepare us for the heavy loads before us.

Naked Mole Skin
Great work by the PAX getting accustomed to being under the ruck and how to work smarter, not harder (sharing loads and rotating on/off coupons) while on the move at a decent pace.  Great to have Fazio and Man Ram with us.  We were honored by their presence, fellowship, and grit.  T-claps to Pepe and Joule for the I2 and making the slush pipes – good to have additional options for ruck workouts.  For all PAX – Continue to be mindful of how the ruck rests on your back, how your feet handle the weight, how your gear performs and make adjustments.  If you have a question, ask it.  Reach out to those you’ve not seen posting to train for GRC.  We want to make sure everyone has gear and is prepared to work as a team.  Always honored to lead.

@F3TriangleGRC extended ruck this Saturday, July 25 from 3:00 am – 7:00 am followed by workout with @F3Durham and @F3ChapelHill at ThinBlueLine 7:00 – 8:00 am.  HC to Dunphy if you’re in.  Keep an eye on Twitter for carpool options.

@F3TheArena is this Friday at 2:30 pm at The Healing Place.  Meet at Pullen Park at 2:00 pm for the optional run over to the THP.
