17 PAX and 7 cinder blocks crossed paths on the frozen tundra of Cedar Falls Park at 0530 sharp for the weekly Vortex ‘experience’. There was one FNG, however YHC did not recognize that fact due to all the excessive headgear, face masks, toboggans, hoods or whatever else outerwear to prevent frost bite.

The warm up:
Typical 400 m warm-up AKA speed lap.
SSH X 40
Arm circles forward and reverse X 10
Imperial Walker X 15
Merkins X 10
Mountain climbers X 20

The PAX separated into groups of 2 or 3 for a slightly modified DORA 123: The groups of 2’s performed a cumulative 100 burpees, 200 merkins and 300 body weight squats; groups of 3’s needed to reach 150 burpees, 300 merkins and 450 BWS. One (or 2, in the 3 person group) PAX from each group tallied the exercises as the other PAX ran the entire field down and back with the cinder block. The cinder block was passed back and forth within the group until all above exercises were completed.

To the playground we went for 10 perfect formed pull-ups Usain Bolt style. As 2 PAX performed pull ups the remainder worked through Burpees (thanks coco), merkins, CDD, jump lunges, et. al. and ended with double merkin burpees (thanks Amphibious).

Back to the frozen tundra for a quick round of Mary. Bear crawl from center of field to corner, 20 American Hammers, bear crawl to back to center and plank. Crawl bear from center to 18 yd and 40 Cadre Phil flutter kicks to end it.
