I’m going to save the title “St. Crispian’s Day” for a day when multiple people vomit, but today was close. Six PAX braved the monsoon conditions (seriously) for what turned out to be a fairly intense (even epic?) beatdown.
After the normal warm-up (lap, SSH, etc.), we did two quick Lazy Doras. First, pairs worked up to 100 wide-grip merkins, one doing a set of ten while the other planked. Second, pairs did 150 body-weight squats, one doing a set of fifteen while the other held a low-squat position. After that, we formed up for the main event.
We split into groups of threes (heavies and lightweights) for a mile (+) of pain. The first three laps were almost identical: PAX started off with a 50-yd bear crawl and then took turns carrying one another down three sides of the field before bear crawling the final 50 yards. Upon finishing, PAX did ten burpees. Early finishers then held a cinderblock overhead until all had finished both the circuit and the burpees. Rinse and repeat the instant the final cinderblock went up. For the second lap, we substituted crab walk for bear crawl; for the third, we split it half crab walk and half bear crawl. On the fourth and final lap (the “easy” one), we each picked up a cinderblock and ran for it. All-out sprint by the end.
I need to emphasize two things: (1) The “heavy” group was heavy! Bushwood was the featherweight of the group at 215. Carrying one another around at speed was a pretty intense challenge, and these guys (Shovel and Draper) deserve serious props. (2) The “light” group may have had an easier time getting around the field (with two 140-pounders), but they had the treat of holding the cinderblock overhead while the other PAX finished. Muscle failure was the reward for finishing early.
After Mary and COT we went home. A hot shower was most welcome. What a great group of guys. My dog wouldn’t even go out to pee the rain was so heavy that morning, so the dozen or so fartsackers are to be forgiven. But they missed out!
