So the last time YHC Q’ed a workout, more than a year ago, was the only time we have ever seen complaints posted on the GoogleDoc. “Too many damn full-field sprints” was the epitaph for YHC for lo these many months.
But the new year brings fresh beginnings and a clean slate for all. Who cares if a new year is an utterly arbitrary dividing point in time? It worked fine when YHC was stuffing himself with collards and blackeyed peas two days ago; why can’t it work for F3 as well?
Three New Year’s Resolutions declared by YHC and shared by the PAX:
- To run faster (YHC is slow as Christmas)
- To learn Spanish
- To travel
We incorporated these three resolutions in new and sometimes painful ways, and we made the rain stop, which is a promising sign for the new year.

RESOLUTION #1: RUN FASTER
We began the workout with a run through the fancy neighborhood of Forest Hills, approx. 0.5 miles, around Hermitage Court circle. We got to see how the other half lives (and they live well!) while trying to push ourselves a bit faster.
RESOLUTION #2: LEARN SPANISH
YHC has been trying to learn Spanish for six years and can barely read the menu at Torero’s. So all counting after warmups was done en Espanol. All encouragement of PAX was done in the style and manner of Speedy Gonzalez.
RESOLUTION #3: TRAVEL
Because opening our minds to new experiences and new languages is the key to happiness and wisdom, we traveled to four different spots at the site.
Jungle gym: Partner does pull-ups while you do merkins (x3)
Tennis courts: Partner runs suicide while you do mountain climbers (x3)
Big tree: Partner does bear crawl from sidewalk to big tree (el arbol grande) while you do squats (x3)
Then traveling to the picnic shelter for Mary (flutter kicks, heels to heaven, Russian hammer).
May 2017 be the brightest, sweatiest year ever for you and yours. There is huge potential in a year–see what you can make happen!
