A record-setting roster of the PAX at Pullen gathered on Saturday – 49 to be exact – thanks to the intentional efforts of Maize, Chong Li, Utah and others.  YHC had the honors of maneuvering those 49 through the park.

THE THANG

We lined up in 2 single file lines side-by-side at the Park’s entrance.  YHC and Wonk led the two lines.  Chong Li and Utah held the rear.  White Shoe and Maize were “rovers” to keep the lines tight and help with the counts.

We set off into a non-stop workout called “Continuous Thunder”:

20 intervals of 1:00 runs at a fellowship pace

After each interval, 20 exercises, including, in no particular order:

  • Low Plank Hold x20
  • Squats x20
  • Wide Arm Merkins x20
  • LBC x20
  • Standing Broad Jump x20
  • WWII Sit Ups x20
  • Diamond Merkins x20
  • Freddie Mercury x20
  • Bear Crawl through PAX tunnel x20
  • Decline Merkins with your partner x20
  • Star Jumps x20
  • Mountain Climbers x20
  • Mini-Jump Ups x20
  • 6” Leg Hold x20
  • Burpees x20
  • Burpees x20
  • SSH x20
  • Incline Merkins x20
  • Sarkozy/Putin x20
  • Plank x20

MOLESKIN

The workout began with the chatter of a cocktail party (without the cocktails).  That ended with the Star Jumps and the Decline Merkins back to back.  It ended again with the surprisingly difficult uphill Standing Broad Jumps.  The idea of Continuous Thunder is 60 minutes of non-stop motion with no counts, although YHC was forced into counts on 3 occasions.

Continuous Thunder is a riff off a workout shown to YHC by a friend named John Cella, who is a longtime recruit but has yet to post.  YHC stole his workout and made it F3 compatiable (i.e., much harder).  White Shoe properly identified Continuous Thunder as the last track from the Japandriods album “Celebration Rock.”

The record turnout include a record turnout of FNGs (5 or 6).  Two of the biggest and best surprises were Magic Goggles – one of the original Pullen PAX – and Linda, who is back in rotation after a long absence.  He is also the first of the Raleigh PAX to earn a female name after forgetting his old name that Dredd gave him, which was based on a character from “The Wire” (McNulty? … YHC doesn’t watch The Wire but did watch O.C. and Party of 5 religiously).

Tclaps again for several sous chefs – Wonk, White Shoe and Maize – for helping move 49 PAX through the Park.

Better late than never
