The backblast for November 1 at the Vortex is late, and the workout was relatively forgettable. The workout fell into two parts: (1) a sprint/merkin/burpee festival (c. 18 minutes), in which teams of 3 stayed in constant rotation, sprinting, doing 15 burpees, and grinding out 30 merkins and (2) four stations, cleverly conceived as pairs of exercises at individual stops but poorly coordinated. Stations were pull-ups/dips; overhead cinderblock presses/dry docks; Australian pull-ups/merkins; and bear crawl (100+ yds)/crab walk (100+ yds). Only a handful of PAX finished all four stations (or even the full bear crawl/crab walk), so we at least squeaked by the site’s minimum challenge threshold.
I write such a late backblast not only to preserve a record of our time together, but also to forward and endorse to any readers a lengthier, better backblast about two national disappointments and a bunch of amazing guys whom I don’t know—but who could easily be the 22 men with whom I felt fortunate enough to work out that morning. I am so grateful for the fellowship.
Welcome FNGs Jewel and Mile High! Happy to have you guys aboard.
Vortex will go on tomorrow, despite Election Day and Durham’s Dirty Dozen. Amphibious has the Q and never disappoints.
