When Capt. Kangaroo turned 50 and Q’d five workouts straight, he inspired and impressed Cut Me Mick. At the time it sounded like a great idea. A year-and-half later, about a month before Mick’s 50th, it still sounded like a great idea, so I signed up. I even added a sixth day to include the Kettlebell Ultra that several of the PAX had been proposing for a couple of years. As the start of my birthday week grew closer, I was not sure what I had gotten myself into. Several younger, stronger PAX also questioned the wisdom of the endeavor.
But that is like so much of life. When the moment calls to us, how often do we raise our hand and walk forward, without any “reason” or guarantee of success? When we do, when we stand there unblinking and staring at life face-to-face, we discover certain truths about living. Truths that are simple and hard and point beyond a few workouts or sore muscles. As silly and as pointless as it is, it is a truth about what it means to be alive.
Six PAX joined me at the start of the first week, of the second half of my own personal century.
