Twenty-two PAX including FNG Shake It Off (a rabid Taylor Swift fan, according to reliable intelligence) celebrated Halloween Monday morning at Fetzer with a rousing rendition of the 400 Club—four hundred reps of squats/lunges, merkins, WWII sit-ups and burpees (various iterations, of course).

After a warmup of SSH x 20, squats x 10, windmills x 10, arm circles forward and back x 10, Carolina dry docks x 10, merkins x 10 and mountain climbers x 20, we ventured to Hooker Field and circled up at the end of one soccer field.

The format was simple: 10 squats, 10 merkins, 10 WWIIs, 10 burpees, then run/sprint to the far end of the field, repeat for a total of 10 lengths of the field or five “laps.” Variations included working lunges into the mix in place of squats and varying the merkins to include diamond, wide-grip and hand-release.

And of course Double Secret Burpees were part of the mix as well.

On the second round of burpees, we added two merkins.

On the third round, we worked two Parker Peters into the move.

On the third round, we did five side shuffle hops coming out of the thrust.

And on round four, we did double merkins, Parker Peters and SSH on each burpee. The limits of time forced us back to standard burpees the rest of the workout.

It was a rousing start to the Halloween holiday and an excellent way to rev up the metabolism for all the treats to come later in the day.
