Hill work begins at #HiFidelity as we prepare the Pax for the #BlueRidgeRelay in September.  This week was the first week of 8 straight where we will focus on hill repeats and various grades, distances, and paces.  18 pax emerged from the gloom to join YHC.  19 total with several #Kotters and a few new faces.

Butcher was the last to show – but he is ALWAYS out here putting in the work.  #WorkWorks – he is becoming a stronger runner every week.  T-claps, and mad respect, for the one who said “running isn’t my strong suit” when he first posted at Whiplash in January.  As we were rolling out of the parking lot, he was rolling in, but he caught up quickly… on to the Thang:

Mosey down to the bottom of Horton St Hill and gather for the warm-up circle.

  • SSH, Good Mornings, Mountain Climbers, WindMills – all in cadence

The first jog up Horton Street was at an easier pace, just to view the carnage that was to follow.  We paid close attention to the entrance to the school, the two fire hydrants along the street, and, of course, the top of the hill at Ridge Road.  3/8 mile to the top and 115 ft of total ascent – 6% average grade

We then completed 7 repeats (1/3, 2/3, Full, 2/3, 1/3, Full, 1/3) – 500 ft of ascent.  Of course, Pepe led the crowd, but many others took places in the 2nd and 3rd place spot on each venture.  The pax are strong, but will get stronger as we continue with these hills.
