“Lean ham and turkey breast with 1000 island, herb mayo, home-made coleslaw, crisp bacon and melted Muenster cheese on grilled pumpernickel.”

After a ho-hum effort on November 1, YHC was determined to give the score of PAX who braved our first truly chilly morning (25 degrees) an above-average workout.  Something meaty: simple, yet delicious; intuitive, but original.  He remembered one of his favorite sandwiches at Littlejohn’s Deli, in Charlottesville, and a workout was born.

We did the customary warm-up lap and truly warmed up in the initial circle (SSHs, windmills, Willie Mays Hayes, arm circles, slow merkins).  Then, five easy pieces (six-minute segments) with no rest in between:

  1. Burpees (max).
  2. Sprints (max 100-yd suicides).
  3. Bear crawl18 yds, 5 merkins, bear crawl 18 yds, 5 merkins, endlessly repeating…
  4. SSHs (five shy of 200 cadence-count!).
  5. Crazy chase game (one partner runs with cinderblock or railroad tie overhead; other does two one-legged burpees, then catches; then switch).

Finally, since “Five Easy Pieces” actually includes condiments and bread as well, we added a dash of extra love.  One partner held a low plank, while the other held the coupon overhead for c. one minute.  Revers-o.  One partner then did 25 overhead presses with the coupon, while the other did 25 Carolina dry docks.  Revers-o.  A round of flutter kicks took us to 6:15.

We closed out the COT with prayers for courage to face the many challenges the world throws at us and with thanksgiving for all of our many blessings.  YHC regrets not naming some of the specific needs or celebrating some of the specific triumphs in prayer but trusts that God knows.  Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
