8 of Cary’s finest F3rs rocked the Danger Zone this morning in the 35 degree gloom. YHC looked through backblasts from earlier in the week trying to conjure ideas for a decent beatdown. What happened is that I just straight up stole an entire workout. The problem is that we ran out of time and only got through about 96% of it, hence the Super Duped title. We didn’t quite earn the Duper.

Before I get into the Thang, let me tell you a little story. Yesterday afternoon around 4:30, I got an email from a #respected member of F3 inquiring about the plan for DZ the next morning. Here’s what it said:

Yo, what’s your plan for tomorrow? I need a recovery workout before the Murph / K2C combo on Saturday. Any chance of that?

YHC was struck by an array of differing thoughts. First off, who the hell says “yo” anymore? Secondly, I didn’t know whether my (stolen) plan should be considered a “recovery” workout. I thought, Naw, this’ll be tough enough. So, I explained the idea, thinking it might lead said #respected member to spend the morning on his trainer in the garage. (Oops, I’ve said too much.) Anyway, here’s the response I got:

I can handle that. Been a week of tough workouts!

Well Sir, I sure do hope you feel recovered this morning.

Warm Up

Jog around the pickle, performing a hairpin turn as YHC scouted a good place for ab work. Head to the basketball courts for:

  • SSH x 20
  • Good Morning (reg pace) x 10
  • SFAC, forward and reverse x 10
  • PlankJacks x 15
  • Mtn Climbers x 15

The Thang

Gents, we’re doing Super Duper 21s this morning. Goes like this…Do 1 Carolina Dry Dock, 1 American Hammer, and one shuttle run (approx 12 yards/36 ft). Next, 2 CDDs, 2 Hammers, 2 Runs. Then 3 of each, and so on and so forth, up to 21. YHC explained that the PAX would do each round together, as a team (a Super Duper team, at that).

This sounds fairly simple, and it is, but don’t mistake simplicity for easy. Somewhere around #16 is when my legs started feeling like concrete. In all we completed 231 CDDs (or variations of Merkins), 231 American Hammers, and somewhere around 200 Shuttle Runs (had to cut it short for time).

COT

  • Count-o-rama: 8 Pax (1 RESPECT, 1 hate, 6 also-rans)
  • Nam-o-rama: Yep, we did it.
  • Announcements: K2C, preempted by the Murph at Pullen. The Mule and Bull in March. Pullen’s final workout will be at the end of February. Only one Q opportunity left!!
  • Prayer concerns: Snippidy Doo Dah Day for Bartman. By the time you read this, he’ll be walking a little more gingerly. Pray for quick recovery.
  • YHC took us out

NMS

Alright, everyone’s favorite part of the BB. If you missed the one for Largemouth’s Q at BO yesterday, click here.

  • Did you know that Largemouth has a Twitter account? Neither did I!
  • I limited myself to stalking him to 3 minutes. Dude likes fishing, as his namesake would imply.
  • @gordoscott in case you’re wondering.
  • Sorry Large, I couldn’t help myself.
  • Ma Bell was the one. He did it. You know what I mean!
  • We had a really good group this AM. 8 PAX pushed and pulled each other through. Especially when it came to counting the shuttle runs.
  • What number are we on?
  • I think I may have only legitimately counted for myself maybe 7 total times. Like, 1 through 5 were pretty easy, then I really focused on round 15 and 16, then I blacked out the rest of the time and just did whatever Largemouth or CK did.
  • I think I only got lapped once by CK. So that’s something.
  • Ollie wondered why everyone else was so much faster at the CDDs and Hammers. You know, I was wondering the same thing.
  • It’s not me, it’s you.
  • The streak of 9 and 15 PAX was broken today. YHC explained before the beatdown that he’s been tracking attendance at DZ. I’m watching you fools. Just remember that.
  • Bartman and I had a brief conversation yesterday about the creepiness of “Every Breath You Take” by the Police. Seems relevant, but I don’t know why.
  • That conversation happened no more than 60 seconds before the Walls of Fidelity tamed my soul and broke my will. I’ll never be the same. For this week, at least.
  • Shoulders burnin! Ma was right when he said it was a tough week of workouts.
  • Me and Riptide were the only two wearing the leggings today. Again, not sure why that’s relevant.
  • CK wore shorts and a short sleeve shirt. I think he’s smarter than I am. About halfway through the workout I thought I might need to shed a few layers. Ma Bell said he considered showing a little skin.
  • The GawdFatha is wise.
  • I don’t understand how it was 61 degrees and downright awful yesterday morning, but then 35 degrees and still downright awful this AM.
  • I didn’t see any snow this morning. Anyone else? No? Should we still go ahead and cancel school?
  • Full disclosure: I have to admit…I still say “Yo” from time to time. Don’t you judge me!!

Alright, time to get ready for work. It was a pleasure leading the fine gentlemen of Cary/Apex/Morrisville (I see you, Rip). I look forward to the next opportunity to lead, which just so happens to be in New Hampshire next Wednesday. Have a great weekend, enjoy your donuts, root for Peyton, but if he sucks, go Panthers!
