With the 5 Points Triple visiting Heavy Metal today, the crowd is off a bit but we have 10 eager Pax ready to tackle the Judge on the eve of my birthday. No one seems to be able to come up with a shovel flag but i happen to have one in my truck which delays our start slightly, but with the flag up we are off to challenge the stairway to seven. Run down the Blue route to the lower parking lot , below the art center.

We did a short history lesson on the property on which the art museum parking sits. Maize seemed to be the only Pax that knew that we were sitting on the property of the former Polk Youth center, which closed 17 years ago. I remembered 2 weeks ago that the spot where we were sitting housed a trailer with the dental clinic for the center. I happened to spend 4 weeks in the Summer of 1984 in this trailer doing dental work on the inmates housed here, while finishing up Dental School at UNC. When I realized this, my mind went back to the time I spent here, and I began to wonder what kind of positive impact I may have had on the guys I worked on that Summer. With my birthday coming up on the 16th my thoughts all week have been on what kind of legacy I am leaving for my family and others after I am off the scene in this life. Jesus says in Matt 6:10 “Don’t lay up for yourself treasures on earth where moth and rust corrupt and thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven which is eternal.”

I challenge all of you to be vigilant on the impact you have on those around you. What will last on this earth, after you assume room temperature, are the positive influences on those you are around, not the money or property so many of us are struggling to accumulate every day of our lives. So take the time today to pour into the lives of those you are around, your family, friends, co-workers, or that random person you run into that is crying out for help. Lay up for yourself treasures in heaven, that will stand the test of time, into eternity.
