When I signed up for my first Q and picked February 24, I just knew it would be freezing cold, there would be no sign of golf, and no one would show up to give me a hard time. Well, it was quite the opposite. It was 56° and Burt and Banjo recruited 23 men to Danger Zone. With the flag waving, a golf club, golf balls, and new/used “Danger Zone” T-shirt from Burt on display, we headed into the gloom. Entering the second lap around the pickle the guys had flashbacks of Nature Boy’s First Q last week and voiced concern they would run the pickle for 45 minutes. I switched it up and we ran backwards for the second lap and circled up for warm-up exercises.

Side Straddle Hops x 20
Imperial Walkers x 20
Good Mornings x 20
Mountain Climbers x 20
Plank Jacks x 20

I was so concerned with correct counting that I wasn’t paying much attention to the mumble chatter – they were fairly quiet for the first 3 Side Straddle Hops. All of that changed when the entire group screamed “FOUR” in unison as if I just shanked a shot towards another golfer. I burst out laughing, struggled through counting, and I could not believe that someone had coordinated this without me knowing – but then again I should know by now not to underestimate this F3 group of men. These men constantly entertain and impress me.

After warm-ups and several screams of “FOUR” we moved to the shelter and partnered up for 1, 2, 3’s. 100 step ups, 200 dips, and 300 calf raises on the steps (we all want Bartman’s calves after all).  One partner started the exercise while the other took a lap around the short loop.

While waiting for the group to finish we did a series of plank holds ending with a 5 count low plank hold around the group started by Riptide.  After recovery we ran around the outer trail to the long bridge. While there was mumble chatter about possible bear crawls my caddy called it off and we did what I called the “Ma Bell Merkin Circle.”  We did lunges over the bridge,  then 15 standard merkins, ran down to the bottom of the hill for 15 derkins, ran up the steps for 15 wide grip merkins, and then finished at the bridge with 15 diamond merkins. After regrouping with squat holds, then 20 seconds of pulsing squats, we did another lap around the “Ma Bell Merkin Circle.”

Gathering the group with squat holds and pulsing squats we left for a jog back around the wide circle, through the sand (trap) volleyball court and up the stairs until we reached the basketball courts. We then split into two groups and ran one final suicide – one group sat in a chair position up against the fence while the other group ran and I think I heard someone say we reached 2.5 miles today.

That’s it boys…this round is over and time to circle up.

COT – Count-o-rama, name-o-rama

Prayer Requests:  All unspoken and I closed us in prayer

My Virgin Q – Thanks for being gentle with me men.  Always proud to be with you and i’m looking forward to wearing my new/used Danger Zone shirt – thanks Burt!
