I’ll tell you about the title in a minute. But what a weird month this has been. I’ll take 60 degrees with some rain over below 20 any day. Today’s edition of True Grit delivered on the gloom side of the coin, no doubt. 16 PAX, many seasoned vets of this AO, posted this morning and the rain joined us, along with a few rain jackets? YHC noticed and set a goal to initiate de-robing. Duff made a good choice and ditched the jacket before warm-ups… Headgear…well, he chose the sweat bath.
As the gloom expressed itself, the PAX gathered for some “shelter” under a leafless tree and swapped stories of previous rain-filled True Grit postings of years gone by. There’s nothing like a good memory to get the juices flowing. Here’s what went down…
WARM-UP:
- 16 Prisoner Squats
- 20 King David Kicks
- 20 Fazio Arm Circles (10 forward / 10 reverse)
- Mosey through the tunnel under Millbrook to the bridge on Shelley Road.
Partner Up for Catch Me If You Can
P1 starts running up the hill towards the intersection with North Hills Drive
P2 does 5 Hand Release Merkins and then chases down their partner. Flapjack until you get to the top.
(Insert mumblechatter for getting wet right out of the gate). Ahhh, I love the smell of pavement puddles.
At the top of the hill, squat hold followed by monkey humpers waiting for the six.
- 15 Star Jumps OYO
- High Knees called by YHC (slow, fast, slow, fast… a few times)
- 10 Star Jumps OYO
- High Knees repeato
- 5 Burpees OYO
Catch Me If You Can down North Hills Drive to the intersection with Millbrook. Non running partner does 5 Sumo Squats.
- Repeat same set as above
Fellowship jog back towards Shelley parking lot, crossing Millbrook as needed. Squat hold and Monkey Humpers waiting for the six.
(I believe this is where I mentioned “grabbing your ankles”… some PAX took liberty with that one).
Mosey over to the rock pile at the bottom of the Dam Hill. Pick a “non-running” rock with your partner.
Rock Sets (P1 runs up the Dam Hill and back. P2 does AMRAP rock set. Flapjack) – we did 5 sets. The rain came and went. The slipping and sliding on that stupid hill was…memorable.
- Curls for the Girls
- Shoulder Press
- Tricep Extensions
- Goblet Squats
- Flutter Kicks + Chest Press
(at some point during this set, YHC started calling Task List “Mexico” only to hear the actual Mexico pipe up on my left. Too late at this point, we almost called for a rename as a result. It’s difficult to see faces at o’dark thirty. But, good times were had by all).
Rocks up. Mosey up the paved path to the open field. Pause for the six. Mosey to the pullup bars.
5 Pullups minimum (more if you can)
AMRAP Squats if you aren’t on the bar.
Mosey back to the parking lot.

YHC shared how this day 1 year ago was when I found out about my Dad’s accident that was ultimately fatal 2 weeks later. The PAX brotherhood is something I’ll never forget from those days and I thank all of you for the support you’ve given over the last year.
Preacher Man closed us out with a strong prayer.
