‘It’s gonna be cold, man’, was the txt YHC received Sunday night from one of the PAX. Cold it was, but not cold enough to keep the men of Pleasantville from making the journey over to The Thicket for an early morning beatdown. After an exchange of pleasantries and a quick welcome, the men made their way over to a breakfast buffet table provided by the Thicket which had bacon, eggs, fresh hot biscuits, hashbrowns, pancakes, waffels, coffee, choice of cereal and hot cocoa. Oh f*%k no we didn’t have that, but you were going to believe for a minute. We don’t do that, we got to work.

MAIN EVENT – (Yanni, Duplo, Marky Mark, Boyardee)
Let’s travel! We started off with a triple hop burpee with a 180 squat jump, complete another burpee then backward lunge for 10 paces. Repeat this routine all the way up the hill. YHC lost count of the burpees, but it was a lot. To finish out the hill we would do a series of merkins with different exercises in between including bear crawl, lunge, crab walk, and whatever YHC felt the PAX needed. Next, we would partner up on a wide street facing your partner with your feet up on the curb. Each partner would complete an increased number of derkins, bear crawl out and meet your partner, do 2 hand slap merkins then crawl bear back to the curb with the merkin count increasing to 10 with every trip out and back. Next the PAX would head over to the picnic tables where Duplo would count off the dips/derkins. Over to the ping pong tables we would travel for some PPPs called out by Boyardee. Sets of slow PPPs while the rest of the PAX did slow merkins on the same count. Repeat till each PAX member had a turn. Now Marky Mark would take this funky bunch(see what YHC did there) over to Pollard Middle school to lead us in some more bear crawls down the ramps and into the parking lot. Time was running out and we had to double time it back to home base. First we would stop for some WWIIs and then a sprint back up the hill. Homes would take over again for Mary and do his trademark long slow flutter. Next, Adolphus would put his mark on this workout by doing the plank stretching. Finally Wuerffel would wrap this show with some LBCs. PAX was done.

COT
There is a race every year in the mountains of Tennessee called The Barkley Marathons. This race is not publicized and only costs a $1.60 to enter, but it’s universally know as one of the hardest races on earth as only 14 men have finished it since 1986. However, despite it’s impossibility the men that try this race come out for the same reason. They come out to challenge themselves, to push their bodies and minds to the limit and to ultimately learn something about themselves. Those who compete say the same thing, trying and failing at something that is hard is so much more rewarding than success which comes easily. We learn much more from failure than from success and if we do succeed at something that was impossible, it’s sweet, oh man it’s sweet. Think about challenging your self, failing at something then succeeding in that something in your life over the holidays and learn something about yourself at the same time. Go out and make a difference today and be the best husband, father, brother, partner, neighbor, uncle, or whatever you are in your community. Till we meet again in the gloom, Aye!
