52 degrees and clear skies welcomed the Pax of 10 to Danger Zone this morning. YHC checked his phone before posting and saw that his mentor, his big bro, his hero was not going to post.  Something about spin class, or hot yoga, or something else #sadclown.  Whatevs.

YHC did not have a plan this morning, which is far from atypical.  But, a plan evolved during the…

Warm up

  • Sir Fazio Arm Circles, forward x 15 (don’t recover)
  • Sir Fazio Arm Circles, reverse x 15 (don’t recover)
  • Good morning x 15 (don’t recover)
  • Windmill x 15 (ok, recover)
  • I just realized we didn’t do SSH this morning.  Does anyone else feel empty inside right now?  Just a little, maybe?
  • Rio showed up the customary 2 minutes late, then took his DEAR SWEET TIME getting to the Pax, so we did 10 penalty burpees as a unit.

The Thang

Line up on the fence while YHC works out a plan for the morning.

  • Bear crawl the length of the bball courts, sprint back.  Plank till everyone arrives.
  • Carioca down and back, squat hold when finished.
  • Crabwalk the length, then sprint back. Plank till everyone returns.
  • Side Shuffle (heel clicks) down and back, plank when finished.
  • From plank position, slide back to achieve Balls To The Wall form, 10-count down the line.
  • People’s chair, with variations called

Run down to the volleyball courts and Hasslehoff around all 4 courts, then up the steps to the picnic shelter.  Grab a bench.

  • Irkens x 20
  • Dips x 20
  • Sumo squats x 20
  • Repeato
  • Repeato, again. 60 total of each

Run down to the volleyball courts and Hasslehoff around all 4 courts, then back up the steps to the picnic shelter.  Grab a bench, again.

  • Irkens x 20
  • Dips x 20
  • Sumo squats x 20
  • Repeato
  • Repeato, but the last set we did x8 each, for a grand total of 108.

The Pax were severely confused and began postulating on the significance of the 108 reps.  Could it be the number of days since the youngun actually planned a Q, or maybe it was a nod to his big bro’s age x2?  One member of the Pax wondered if it might represent the number of days since YHC and mYHC had relations. All interesting guesses, and all terribly wrong.

So next, like deja vu, run down to the volleyball courts and Hasslehoff around all 4 courts, then up the steps and head back toward the basketball courts. Once there, we repeated history…

  • People’s chair, with variations called
  • Balls To The Wall, 10-count down the line.
  • Side Shuffle (heel clicks) down and back, plank when finished.
  • Crabwalk the length, then sprint back. Plank till everyone returns.
  • Carioca down and back, squat hold when finished.
  • Bear crawl the length of the bball courts, sprint back.  Squat hold until everyone arrives.

Mary, And the wind cried

  • LBC x 20
  • Hello Dolly (what’s up, girl?) x 20
  • Side plank crunches, left x 20
  • Side plank crunches, right x 20
  • Freddy Mercury x 20
  • American Hammer x 8
  • (108 reps, again)

COT

YHC finally explained to the anxious Pax that it has been 108 years since the Cubs, YHC’s boyhood heroes, have won a World Series.  YHC felt it would be a good omen to repeat history today to appease the baseball gods.  In reality, YHC acknowledges the one true God, and YHC also humbly asks that the CUBS COULD WIN THIS DARN THING AGAIN SO I CAN DIE IN PEACE!!!!!  Amen.

  • Name-o-rama: check.
  • Announcements: nothing too important.
  • Prayer requests: the aforementioned prayer, YHCs sister struggling with anxiety, all the men who are unemployed or underemployed looking for meaningful work, all the various familial health issues and concerns.

Thanks for allowing me to lead you gentlemen today. It was an honor. And thank you for not completely burying me for being unprepared. I think we all got our money’s worth this AM.  Have a great weekend, see you in the gloom. Oh, and Go Cubs Go!!
