Another rainy day couldn’t stop 14 PAX from gathering for another Callahan Q. YHC appeared from the gloom at 0540 to find a sizable group standing in the rain waiting for some pain. A wayward comment about how it rains every time YHC Q’s lately and I gave assurance that once again, we would be getting wet.
0545 struck, no FNGs but a disclaimer was given in haste on account of the rain (do what you can, if you don’t like the rain, feel free to wait it out in your car or leave, etc.), and the PAX were off into the 73 degree gloom.
Warm-up
We jogged over to the big, concrete baseball for the warm up.
- Good morning x 15
- Merkins x 10, 4-count
- Squats x 15
- SSH x 20
The Thang
YHC quickly explained a new exercise submitted to the lexicon just this week named the Lazy Dora. Very similar to the Dora 1-2-3, we paired up and would complete 100 Merkins, 200 LBCs, and 300 Squats cumulatively as a team. The “lazy” aspect of this Dora is that we wouldn’t be running between turns. Instead, as Partner 1 performs 10 Merkins, Partner 2 performs a plank. Whence P1 is finished, he then holds in plank position whilst P2 performs 10 merkins, and repeato until all 100 Merkins are complete. Next, P1 performs 20 LBCs whilst P2 holds a 6″ leg hold. Once P1 finishes, the partners switch tasks and repeato until all 200 LBCs have been performed. Finally, as P1 starts with 20 Prisoner Squats, P2 waits patiently while performing a squat hold. Again, when P1 finishes his set of 20 squats, he then performs a squat hold while P2 knocks out a set of 20 Prisoner Squats – and repeato until all 300 Squats have been deftly performed.
Two words – Lactic. Acid.
Since we didn’t run during the Lazy Dora, YHC felt compelled to play a quick game of Catch Me If You Can. Again, the premise is simple. P1 gets started on 3 burpees whilst P2 back-pedals away from P1. Once P1 finishes the 3 Burpees, he runs to catch up with P2. Once caught, P2 drops for 3 burpees and P1 switches to a backwards run. Continue this chase until completing a revolution of the two big parking lots, beginning and ending at the big, concrete baseball. It was tiring.
Next, we moseyed over to the TOCRP (sorry, the Town Of Cary Rock Pile), grabbed our tools (the rocks), and again moseyed to the basketball courts. Once there, we enjoyed some People’s Chair while doing Rock Press x 15. Next, still in the People’s Chair, lay the rock in your lap and put your arms out in front of you. If the rock won’t stay on your lap, it means you need to get lower! After a minute or so, we shook out the legs, then Repeato! After that, we did an assortment of Mary and arm work with rocks in tow.
- Rock Curl x 15
- Rock Extension (triceps) x 15
- Rocks Up, Rocks Up x 15
- 6″ leg hold with rock held above your chest, 5-count around the circle
- Rock Pounder (this garnered copious mumble chatter)
We moseyed back to the TOCRP, but before tossing the tools back into the pile, we knocked out a set of Rock Presses x 15 for good measure. At that point, we had a perfect amount of time left for another fun round of Catch Me If You Can, this time just around the one parking lot. Once we got back to the cars, circle up for….

American Hammers till time expires (~45 seconds).
COT
Count-o-rama: 14…great numbers in Cary lately despite the less than perfect weather.
Name-a-rama: No FNG’s but plenty of newer guys
Announcements: Bull City Beatdown (sorta like a Mule, but softer and shorter) – November 7, don’t remember the location (the Alfred Somethingrather Trailhead in Durham). Should be a great time with good fellowship and plenty of pain to go around. Sign up for KKC if you know what’s good for you. Keep an eye on f3nation.com for details on the Triangle F3 Christmas Party and other fun things like that.
Prayer Requests: Goose’s colleague, M.Katniss’ friend’s daughter and her struggles, YHC praises God for a good interview and is trying to trust in Him to provide what is needed financially, and for Large Mouth’s friend and her family.
NMS
It was a pleasure to lead again this AM in the full splendor of God’s nature. I love the rain. Well, let me back up. I love the rain in 73 degree weather. Good work by all the PAX today. No one cried – at least I didn’t see anyone crying, but it was hard to tell with the rain and all. I love all the newer faces (and the old ones, too) and it is really encouraging to see this thing grow each week. I made a conscious decision to step into a few gaps regarding the Q sign-ups over the last week, and I am very glad I did. Each workout has been challenging and each time we have had a great group of guys pushing each other to go harder. I want to encourage some of the guys who have been coming for a number of months to step into a Q or a Co-Q with a buddy and take a turn with leading these men. They won’t let you down!
