40 degrees and no rain on March 1? Let’s run circles around the track! 6 souls emerged from their cars on Horton St, to converge on the track at Martin MS. 3 of us suffered through the #Maize beatdown on the Wade Ave Half-pipe at ZeroHour on Leap Day. Now, I am threatening with some mileage on the track.
The pre-blast tweet said it would be complicated. After a mile warm-up, and then a set of Good Mornings x 16, Squats x 16, Imperial Walkers x 16, we toed the line for the main set.
Main Set – 8 x (2:00@HM, 2:00@5k, 1:00@Recovery)
- Under-Threshold: HM = Half-marathon pace, or 1:30 / mi slower Mile Race Pace (R)
- Over-Threshold: 5k = 5k Race Pace, or 0:30/mi slower than Mile Race Pace (R)
- Recovery = Walk / Jog back to the start line.
Observations
- About 6.4 miles total. Good job
- This workout is designed to push the legs to work around the Lactate Threshold with active recovery between work sessions. Changing paces this many times taxes the mind and the body.
- The 1:00 recovery was never long enough
- After 3 intervals, we knew this workout was going to be painful
