What we did doesn’t matter, what we experienced does.
As an all day rain fell, YHC did not anticipate much of a turn out for this edition of the Arena. Hoping for at least one Healing Place errrrr Healing Transitions client to join the always present PAX of Duff and Countywide, YHC skipped the run over and arrived early to scout out the land and do a little recruiting.
The HP errrrrrr HT clients were being treated to pizza, pop and a Bond movie, tough competition. As Ron Mexico and Kiss my Grits arrived from a wet run over from Pullen things started looking up. Heron came out of the movie room, greeted the F3 brothers that had gather and informed us that it was too wet to work out. The PAX informed Heron that there are no excuses in F3; workouts are rain or shine. Fiddler and Tubbs rolled in about then to prove the point. Just then we were told that the old Dorothea Dix gym had been unlocked, and we took it from there.
What we did:
Warm up
Imperial walkers, merkins, Good afternoons, merkins, Prisoner squarts, and merkins
Heron then lead a PAX of 7 F3 regulars and 3 HT brothers to the GYM:
The Thang
Partner up: Partner 1: suicides while partner 2 does exercise. Dips and Derkins. Flap Jack.
Pressure- Each member of the pax calls out exercise and enters the arena. Individual has 5 attempts to make a free throw while PAX does amrap of called exercise. Airball= 5 burpess. Conclusion- we suck at free throws.
Gametime: Old school captains pick. Thornbush and Sheppard as captains pick teams. 5 on 5 half court to 21, followed by 4 on 4. Pigtails arrives to the Gym just in time to sub in.
Game notes:
-The verbal war between Heron and Thornbush was epic.
-The physical battle between old high school teammates Duff and Fiddler was legendary. Glory days.
-Kiss my Grits has hidden bball skills.
-Pigtails has the ugliest, most effective shot.
-CW is a distributor on and off the court.
-Ron Mexico is tall and wants to win.
What we experienced:
-Showing up makes a difference to all involved.
-Excuses can keep you from experiencing something great.
-Heartfelt prayer requests for friends who are lost and need to show up.
-After a strong prayer out by Thornbush, many of the Pax stayed for fellowship. F3 and Healing Place men sharing stories and encouragement.
