Something must’ve been in the water at Urban Jungle. It started last night when Twitter blew up talking about Life Alert’s lovely lochs and how YHC should wear a mullet wig for my Q. Then I show up in the JCP parking lot and a small plastic table is in the middle of the circle with a half full bottle of Pinot Grigio and sliced cheddar cheese on top of it. What the hell is going on at this AO?? Time to bring some Tyson to the Jungle to get things back in order.

Merkin Mile – run a mile to our next set, stopping every quarter mile for 20 merkins in cadence. Stop 1 – Target parking lot, stop 2 – North State Bank parking lot, Frogger over Six Forks to NH East, Stop 3 – gravel construction parking lot, Stop 4 – parking lot by new SunTrust office tower.
Head over to the 2nd new parking deck and up to the 2nd level. Partner up for a Few Rounds with Tyson. Two routes – one up and the other down. Stop at each turn. 3 stops on the way out, 2 on the way back. At each stop do 10 reps of called exercise. Partners switch up and down routes each round to avoid crowding. Exercises were:
- Round 1: Star Jumps
- Round 2: Wide Grip Merkins
- Round 3: LBC
- Round 4: Jump Lunges
- Round 5: Carolina Dry Docks
Time for a change of scenery. Head over to the field below Chueys, behind the stage. Continue the Rounds with Tyson, same method – partner 1 heads up the hill to left, partner 2 to the right and switch after each round. Stops were 1) corner 2) halfway up the hill 3) stop sign at top of hill and back down.
- Round 6: Knee Taps
- Round 7: Hand Release Merkins
- Round 8: Burpees (5x at each stop)
Running late now so a quick pace jog back to JCP parking lot.

Happy 52nd birthday to my man Orwell, F3 Raleigh’s chief recruiter.
Speaking of Orwell, it was he who was responsible for bringing the wine and cheese this morning. I’m sure the Tarheel faithful were excited to see this, but in reality it was Orwell trying to stir the pot with YHC. So, to show my appreciation for this gesture and the fact it was his b-day, we ran a little more than usual this morning at UJ.
T-claps to Cotton, Costco, and Popeye for pushing it and leading the way through the rounds with Tyson.
Bullhorn summarized the workout very well afterwards – Rounds with Tyson does not seem too bad when you get started, but by the end you are gassed and need the encouragement of the guys around you to push through. A simple workout but a good one.
Thanks for the opportunity to lead this morning, and happy birthday once again Orwell you old fart!
