It was an ideal morning in the gloom, if you ask YHC. With freezing cold temps around the corner, 45 degrees and no rain is about as good as it gets. What better way to start your weekend, than 60 minutes with North Raleigh’s finest. 23 men assembled at Carroll Middle for some fun in the sun this morning. 4 men for a little pre-Catalyst 5k around North Hills, just to get the blood flowing. Catalyst featured many VIPs, with one FNG EH’ed by YHC. Good things were in store. A brief disclaimer was offered up and away we went.
Mosey to the basketball court by the track. SSH x25, G’mornins x15, Imperial Walkers x20, Merkins x15. To the track.
Find a partner of similar speed for the partner chase mile. YHC explained that partner 1 would do 10 merkins, chase your partner and tag him, he drops for 10 merkins. 4 times around the track. To which multiple PAX exclaimed “That’s a mile!” Very good boys and girls. Who knew we had so many math majors. Off we went. Plank when done. LBCs x30.
Head up to the back parking lot, find a spot on the curb. In his head, YHC was thinking the curb was high enough to call curb-irkins and curb-dirkins. Not really the case. Basically just regular merkins. Oh well. Here’s how it went.
Curb-Irkins x12, Quick feet x12, Curb-Dirkins x12, Quick feet x12. Four sets of this total.
Down to the rock pile. Grab a rock, circle up. After each exercise, rotate to the right.
4 sets of Curls x12, Bent Row x12, American Rock Hammers x12
Lots of disparity in rock sizes here. There were stretches of tiny rocks, then stretches of behemoth rocks. Some minor harassment of those selecting tiny rocks. Plenty of hatred for those who chose big boy sized rocks. But that’s why we rotate, so everyone gets a taste. Excellent mumble chatter at this stage, as Franzia misheard YHC’s call for “Rock Hammers” for a word that rhymes with “Rock” + rammer. Did he really mishear? It’s Franzia, what do you think?
Over to the track. Two lines on either side, with the man at the front by the 100 meter starting mark. Time for a little relay race. Man at the back of the line does a 100m sprint, and tags the next man in line. Meanwhile the rest of the crew does Mary exercises. Complaints of inequality in the teams were rightfully ignored. It cam down to YHC and ManRam. ManRam made a nice push but YHC had a slight head start which provided the edge. Still #Gassed.
Mary exercises were LBCs, Freddie Mercury’s, WWII’s, Rosalitas, Merkins, Flutter kicks and something else.
Up to the wall. People’s chair x20. Merkins x10. People’s chair with 8 count per PAX down the line. 10 burpees OYO. Balls to the Walls x25.
Mosey back to the front lot for Mary. Dying cockroach, Homer to Marge (from Java), Long slow flutter (from Franzia). Done.
Moleskin:
Great to see so many familiar faces this morning. Mumble chatter was in abundance. We named our FNG “Itchy”. He sells insulation. Other suggestions were “Fiber-glass” and “Spray foam”. Keep coming out brother. The first one is the hardest. To Itchy’s credit, YHC had an easy EH job. Only took one conversation to sell him. T-Claps to the pre-run crew for the extra effort.
