The Pony Express was a mail service that operated from 1860 until 1861, delivering messages, newspapers, and mail spanning 1,900 miles from St. Joseph, MO to Sacramento, CA. There were 184 stations along the long and arduous route used by the Pony Express, and they were essential to the successful, timely and smooth operation of the Pony Express mail system. The route was divided up into five divisions, and to maintain as rigid a schedule as possible, the stations were as evenly spaced as possible.
Thus is the historical significance as to the format and style of Raleigh’s newest AO: 1.25 miles of greenway broken into 5 even segments with a pain station at the end of each, running out and back for a total of 2.5 miles and 10 pain stations.
Thanks to everyone for coming out to the first official launch of the workout. The good thing about this format is that the PAX don’t get too spread out due to the length of the legs, but everyone gets their money’s worth regardless of speed. I say that to encourage everyone to come out and don’t feel that this AO is strictly for the Postfontaines of the world. All are welcome.
Special thanks to the guys that helped beta test this AO over the last month: Pepe, Joule, Postfontaine, Kool Aid, Money Hose, Horse Hair, Bob Villa, and a few others that I’m forgetting off the top of my head. I appreciate y’all helping to get this AO off the ground.
One last shout out to F3 Dallas for the inspiration for this workout. If any Raleigh PAX are ever down there on Thursdays, go to their Katy Trail workout that launches from SMU’s campus (origin of the Pony Express name – see what I did there?).
