18 men rolled up on this beautiful morning. CheddarBo was late so we parked and gathered at the gate for some F2 under the stars. Good to see Chips back from a near one year hiatus for what he stated was, “excuses”.
With one minute to start, Hot Spot calls out that the YHC is late. Thanks Hot Spot – 10 burpees before we even start. There were no FNG’s so disclaimer was shelved and we were off after YHC made it clear that he needs to work on his Q skills: cannot read a watch and cadence counting can be horrific, if that.
We jogged to the first intersection to warm-up with SSH, Good morning with an interruption by CheddarBo – who decided to open the gates 5 minutes too late, uhh, more good a.m.’s? Mountain climbers, low plank hold with count around the COP, various plank positions, and more low plank holds. Recover! [Goose – not to get cocky, but I think I got it.]
We moseyed to top of hill for 11’s Double Down in the bowl. Start at speed bump near batting cage, run down to bridge for 1 jump squat, up to rock pile for 10 burpees, back down to bridge for 1 left and right jump squats, back up to speed bump for 10 merkins…….
As YHC is just 5 weeks out from the RESPECT category and eyesight failing him, alarm set for 6:22 sounds off as we are on the final leg of the 11’s double down. Pax notified this is final leg and they all stepped up and pushed a little harder on this final leg. And with time closing, all the pax picked it up on their final leg for that extra effort.
11’s Double Down is grueling. Good to see the pax working in groups to push each other beyond their individual limits. #Tclaps to Brisket as he quickened the pace and probably had a personal best – some great changes in this young man as he is closing in on 4 months with F3. He will soon be leading the pax. Also good to see the camaraderie as several of the pax including Denali, Largemouth, and Katniss doubled back to pick up the sixes.YHC, wants to give a special shout out to Largemouth and Katniss today for that additional push and encouragement to go beyond comfort and into a new realm of being uncomfortable. #ISI
To Denali’s chagrin, we dropped our sixes in the middle of the road for Mary. As we begin, Billy, Franklin, and Term Paper instead head off for their final round of the 11’s Double down. 15 pax stayed for Left and Right oblique’s [Burt’s all time favorite] and left and right cross over leg lift [much harder than it looks]. We then head to parking lot following a Billy and Burt 110 yd AYG for COT with pax of 18.
Prayer concerns: Prayer concerns for the flood victims in SC and #Tclaps to the men of F3 stepping up, to the family members of Bartman, Coney, and Hot Spot. Bartman’s mother is having surgery in Chicago. As I write this, I ask for prayers for my daughter Campbell’s god mother who is on her way to the hospital for surgery.
Announcements: There are 5 open and paid for slots for any of the pax willing to step up and participate in this weekends GRC. Get in touch with Denali or Kanye [GRC Q this yr.] for details. Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot on Ridge Road, stay tuned for more to follow. F3 Durham and the Bull City Beat Down coming November 7th.
YHC took us out in prayer.
Reflection: YHC has been thinking a lot about accountability following Dredd’s post from the Iron Project last week and the way the men of F3 stepped up to help their fellow men in need with the donation of time and money to help South Carolina flood victims. Dredd offered some good reading on standards, enforcement, consequences. As men of F3 we volunteered to be held accountable to our fellow man. F3 is a movement-place-gathering-you name it, filled with motivation, inspiration, consideration; a place where with mindfulness, honesty, acceptance, and courage, we help each other shed the baggage that we often carry, move into areas of the unknown, make better and sounder decisions, and pursue and move closer to true goals. Thanks F3 for the Freedom to Lead… and serve.
