A good showing of PAX decided to start their work week off right after the long Labor Day Weekend by choosing the gloom over the fartsack; its always the right choice. The gloom turned very soupy – thick fog rolled in and seemed to get thicker as we went. Or maybe that was the Q’s glasses steaming up.
WARM UP
Run around the parking lot and circle up close to the baseball. We had too many PAX to be on the baseball – that’s the kind of problem the Q likes!
20 SSH
20 Windmills
20 Sir Fazio Arm Circles
The Thang
Stay where you are and face the baseball field for a Merkin Clock – Ma Bell’s favorite. Starting with 12:00 and going counter-clockwise to 1:00. Ma Bell may have been disappointed in the counter-clockwise, but he’ll get over it.
The PAX then split into two groups for Indian Runs in opposite directions around the baseball fields to the far side. Under the threat of Low Plank Holds at the end, the PAX timed it perfectly to finish at the same time. The Q thought we should do Low Plank Holds anyway, so we did until the Q felt we were done.
Grab some curb, and the PAX were surprised it wasn’t Quick Feet!
20 Dips
20 Dirkins
20 Quick Feet (there they are!)
20 Irkins
Run to the other top parking lot for Four Corners. Bear Crawl the length (it seemed to remind some of the Bearway to Heaven), Crab Walk the width, Lunge Walk the length, and Broad Jump the width.
First Corner – 20 Prisoner Squats
Second Corner – 20 Star Jumps
Third Corner – 20 LBCs
Fourth Corner – 20 Wide Grip Merkins, Plank it out until the PAX are done.
While recovering on the run down the hill, the Q pointed out three markers to be used for Double 11s. Each lap: LBCs in the middle, Box Cutters on the outside. Decrement/increment each full lap. The Q called an audible since a time-check showed we were behind schedule. He moved the outer markers closer to the middle at 7-5. We continued on the Double 11s until 4-7 when Q had to audible again to recover on the run back to the parking lot for some quick Mary. (make a note Q – Double 11s require more time)

At times, we all need reminders that phases in life are temporary. It is easy to get caught up in the rigors and busyness of life and forget that phases are not permanent. For me, I’ve been reminded recently of the decreasing amount of time that I have with my kids. Each day, each weekend is progress toward them leaving home. I’ve started keeping track of the number of weekends left until they start college on the mirror in my bathroom. My buddy John has a bucket of marbles for each of his kids and throws one away from each bucket every Saturday. It is a reminder that our time is limited – to form and forge the kind of relationships that last a lifetime. To prepare them to make an impact on the world in which we live. And we have a decreasing amount of time to do it. The phase doesn’t last.
What phase in your life do you need a reminder that it is not permanent? What reminder do you need to make so you intentionally make the most of it?
It was an honor to lead such a great group of men.
