Football Training Camp

Watson took the PAX through a NFL style training camp workout. There was a display of real talent on the field.  I think the men could form the nucleus of a good team that is capable of winning a few games.  We have good team speed.  I saw some excellent agility.  Wide receivers look good. Huge THUNDERCLAP for O Flex for a diving catch.  However, we may be lacking true NFL caliber arms … I saw a few weak passes from the QBs.  Need to hit the rock pile on Saturday to build up the arm strength.

Warm-up:  Run the path around the sports fields.

Warm-up exercises:

  • Side shuttle hop – 25x
  • Good mornings – 10x
  • Sumo Squats – 15x
  • Windmills – 15x
  • Spider Man – 10x
  • Sir Fozio Arm Circles – 15 forward, 15 backward
  • Imperial Walkers – 15x.

First Event: On the sports field.  “He could go all the way ….” (Reference:  Chris Berman of ESPN … when calling a long touchdown run.)

  • Run 100 yards, 10 Merkins
  • Run 100 yards , 10 Star Jumps
  • High steps for 100 yards – 10 Merkins
  • Run backwards for 100 yards – 10 Star Jumps
  • Karoake for 100 yards – 10 Merkins — Karoake
  • Karoake for 100 yards – 20 Air Squats

Second Event:  Up / Downs

  • Coach Ventura went “old school” and broke out the up / downs.

 

Third Event: Speed Drills

  • X Drill (Four cones … five yards square) Run diagonal, shuffle, run backwards diagonal, sprint – 3x each
  • Pro Agility Drill (three cones, 10 yards apart) Run 10 yards, touch, run 20 yards, touch, sprint 20 yards – 3x
  • Run-Shuffle-Run (four cones, 15 yards apart) — Improving our footwork as a cornerback … run backwards for 15 yards, shuffle for 15 yards, sprint for 15 yards – (Back and Forth)  – 3x

 

Fourth Event: Ghost to the Post  (Reference is from the 1977 Oakland Raiders / Baltimore Colts playoff game … Quarterback Kenny Stabler to Tight End Dave Casper)

  • Wide receiver runs to the cone, then breaks for the goal post
  • QB passes the ball.
  • If the ball is caught, 5 Merkins
  • If the ball is not caught, 5 Burpees
  • Everyone gets an opportunity to be the receiver and the QB.

 

Fifth Event: Music City Miracle.  (Reference:  Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills – January 2000.  Tennessee scored a controversial touchdown on a kickoff return.)

  • Split into two teams 1’s and 2’s
  • Team 1 kicks off …. Team 2 tries to get down the field without getting touched.
  • Run the event a second time … Team 2 kicks off.
  • Repeat.
