When I was in high school, there was an athletic award bestowed upon those who were studly enough to letter in 3 varsity sports in one school year. It was called the “Master of Sports Award.” I wanted it bad. Real bad. But YHC never secured that lofty prize. Made it 2 out of 3, but was cut during tryouts for varsity basketball ALL 4 YEARS. And it haunts me to this day. But in the Dawn Patrol gloom, 17 PAX became masters of sports & YHC had his redemption. Together we met every challenge laid before us on a SOCCER field, a BASEBALL field, & a BASKETBALL court: Masters of Sports indeed.

YHC’s reason #176 to love F3: we don’t have to always try to “re-live” or “do over” our glory days thru our kids or thru those we coach in a youth sports league. Although there is (presumably) no fountain of youth, we can all continue to chase our sporting dreams each day in the gloom. We may never get there & our work is never done. But it sure is a good feeling to try. To sweat it out alongside your friends. Just like ball practice.

Thank you PAX for the freedom to lead.
