YHC hasn’t carried the conch through John C. Chavis Memorial Park since he was deposed as co-site Q by his co-site Q in a velvet revolution, memory of which is lost in the sands of time.  But if there were ever a group who could recall those dark days, it was the fitness comrades who gathered this fine Saturday–because they were old.  Very old.  We won’t get into mean, median, and mode, but the eyeball over/under on this crowd was 51.5.  Which made the following all the more impressive:

Start:

  • Run around the perimeter of the park to the outdoor pavilion with a stone fireplace (#classy):
    • Irkins x10
    • Dips x10
    • Derkins x10
    • Alternating step-ups x10
    • Repeato x5
  • Mosey back to the rock pile adjacent to the parking lot, collect a rock for:
    • Curls x10
    • Presses x10
    • Tricep extension x10
    • Repeato x3

More fitness:

  • Pick up the folks from HT (and other, various, stragglers).  Mosey over to the football field for:
    • Warmup:
      • SSH x20
      • IW x20
      • Good morning x20
      • Windmill x20 (remarkable effort by Wendell on these)
      • Mountain climbers x20
      • Mericans x20
  • First exercise is:
    • 10 burpees, sprint to the end of the field, sprint back
    • Repeato x5 (fan favorite)
    • Flutter kick x30
    • Heels to heaven x30
  • Mosey over to the Tipton Street hill, but first:
    • Declining pyramid of squats with 10-count hold at conclusion of each set
    • Round 1:
      • Sprint up and back, halfway up 5 burpees, top, 15 jumping sumo squats, halfway down 5 burpees
    • Round 2:
      • Sprint up and back, halfway up 10 hand-release Mericans, top, 15 heels to heaven, halfway down 10 hand release Mericans
    • Round 3:
      • Sprint up and back, halfway up 10 wide-grip Mericans, top, 20 LBCs, halfway down 10 wide grip Mericans
    • Plank after each round until every man finishes (except Wendell, who didn’t plank at all and talked about the 6 upcoming U2 shows he plans to attend because, well, #privilege)
  • Mosey back to the football field for, you guessed it:
    • 10 burpees, sprint to the end, sprint back

Fin.

Moleskine:

  • This was a long day at the office for anyone, even Fry Daddy was looking for the clock to strike 8, so kudos to those in the AARP crowd for gutting it out and pushing everyone out there–mostly YHC–to be better.
  • Tuesday evening running events at HT–1 mile, 3 miles, 5 miles.  Kickoff is at 6:00 pm.  Great way to log some BRR prep miles while giving back.
  • Sad clown walking: In the past couple of weeks, I’ve heard more than one man raise a prayer request for “A lot of guys in F3 who are dealing with some really difficult issues.”  My sincere hope is that each of these men–whoever they are–have found at least one other man to walk with them through that trial.  Because if not, we are failing.  Failing each other, failing ourselves, and failing to live up to this organization’s creed.  But I know that can’t be the case, and so I encourage each of you who are struggling to find someone who will help share your burden and lighten your load.  If all’s well in your little corner of the universe, seek out someone whose strength is failing and offer him your support and encouragement.  And if you can’t find anyone, give Tom Skerritt a call, because he’ll fly with ya.
