In prepping for YHC’s latest True Grit Q, I ventured over to Lowe’s last weekend to pick up some coupons in the form of cinderblocks for our Tuesday morning fun in the gloom.  Only question was – how many?  In looking back over the past couple of months’ posting numbers at TG, the range looked to be in the 7-11 range, so, 14 seemed to be more than enough.

On the eve of the event, a tweet was made with a picture of said cinderblocks weighing down the back of my car, in the hopes of generating some interest in a TG posting.  Apparently it worked, as 14 of F3 Raleigh’s finest flooded into the Shelley Lake parking lot as 5:30am approached.

14 pax and 14 cinderblocks = this workout was meant to be.

Side note – according to google, a cinderblock weighs around 28-30 lbs.

No FNGs (almost one with Mayhem – perhaps a blessing in disguise??), so a quick disclaimer was given about the danger of playing with heavy objects with sharp edges and corners.  Some confused looks among the pax but we press forward nonetheless.

Warmup

GM x 10, Seal Jacks x 15, Double Hand Release Merkins x 15 OYO (hands off the ground at bottom and top of merkin)

Thang

Quick loop around the parking lot and to YHC’s car, where 14 fresh cinderblocks lay waiting.  Load up and head out, up the trail by the dam and make our way over to the hill just past the pull-up bars, with blocks over head some of the way.  Line up at bottom of grassy hill, for the highlight of today’s workout:

11’s – cinderblock burpees at the top, cinderblock squat press at the bottom.  Gasser and brutal shoulder burner here.

With blocks, head over to big field and line up facing the woods on other side for a Maize special.  After each of the following exercises, sprint to the other side of field and back:

  • Merkin Lock on the Block (one hand on block, do a merkin then a nippler with opposite hand) – right hand on block x 15.  Sprint
  • Merkin Lock on the Block – left hand on block x 15.  Sprint
  • Makhtar N’diaye’s on the block x 15.  Sprint
  • Baby derkins x 20.  Sprint.
  • Chest press x 25.  Sprint.

Carry blocks back to parking lot path and unload.  Head over to base of Shelly Rd hill.

Interval run up the hill – 5x, 10x, 15x, and 20x star jumps as we hit each street crossing heading up to North Hills Dr.

Back to parking lot trail, pick up the blocks and say good riddance to the bastards and drop off at YHC’s car.  Circle up for some quick Mary.
