YHC tweeted out the night before about grinding through to the Hazy Shade of Winter – a reference to the last challenge song the PAX would be doing by Simon & Garfunkel. Sadly, we didn’t make it but we achieved a lot of pain along the way all to the tune of sound tracks that surprised the PAX in their length. Funny, they didn’t seem that long when YHC was drafting up the plan. Thanks to Yorkie in Kearnersville for the plan. As this was YHC’s VQ in just two months from YHC’s first post to a workout; it helps to have good advisers.
Welcome FNG The Dude, appropriate disclaimer issued and we begin….
WARM-O-RAMA:
SSH X 20
IW X 20
GM x 20
Burpees OYO X 5
Some mumblechatter about burpees on the warm up setting the tone for the Thang.
THE THANG:
All exercises were done as “song challenges” with a break in between, shortened as necessary to cut the whining or longer if the Q was fighting with the speaker.
1st: Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin) – ran up and down the stairs of the Ledford Center on the campus of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Seems an appropriate venue and a throwback to Patina’s Q on YHC’s first post. Mumblechatter picked up in volume and frequency about the length of the song and the Q’s phone quit about halfway through which, upon restart, probably added another minute or two to the duration. Strong PAX kept going however.
2nd: Flower (Moby) – The Q disregarded the request for sitting Indian style and we proceeded with: Squat Challenge, “Bring Sally Up” – up position, “Bring Sally Down” – hold down squat position (good and low). Mumblechatter on who is Sally. YHC considered adding a rock token, and is very glad it was left out.
3rd: Gonna Fly Now (Conti) – 1xBurpee and then 5x BUT KIS (jump rope).
4th: Around the World (Daft Punk): Al Gore when the music is playing, leg lunges during around the world. Was supposed to do the lunges “around the world” but YHC forgot.
5th: Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash) – Merkins Ring of Fire and hold plank between.
6th: Get Lucky (Daft Punk): star jumps on “Get Lucky” and Al Gore on “Up all Night”. YHC’s coordination declined severely and leadership suffered as a result but we got it done.
The Q pulled an audible and we skipped “Roxanne (Police)” merkin/plank jacks and moseyed back to the flag for…..
6 MOM:
We Are the Champions (Queen): on your six, holding feet six inches during the verse and slow Freddie Mercuries during the chorus. YHC’s pulled the plug at the 6:30 a.m. and we closed out.
YHC will pull this one back out of the bag in the future for a Saturday workout and squeeze in Hands of Time to the soundtrack of “Hazy Shade of Winter” (Simon and Garfunkle).
THE END
COT:
– Name-o-rama
– YHC wanted to re-share a previous point about spending 45 minutes to an hour dedicated to listening and spending time with your family, Ms and 2.0s and related loved ones; avoid the trap of technology and a fast paced life eroding quality time spent where it is most important. YHC has discovered that accomplishing a lot can come at a price and life has to be balanced to be fulfilling.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
– Q schedule wide open for all 3 NE Wake sites, sign up for Agoge, Excalibur and The Farm. YHC was volunteered by the site Q at The Farm for this Saturday. I guess the music wasn’t so bad after all.
– Mudrun in April, 2 teams assembled, possible third? Let YHC, Patina or Audit know if interested.
– Mule on March 5. Audit and Lucky will make a call on The Farm for that Saturday.
PRAYERS:
Floppy Disk took us out.
MOLESKIN:
Good work today by all PAX and good showing (14!) for a great morning at Agoge. Thanks to PAX for rallying around my VQ and motivating me to work harder.
I appreciate the opportunity to lead and grow along side you men, AYE!!
