Rainy, Windy, 58 degrees. Could’ve been worse! 11 men had congregated in the parking lot of Thomas Brooks Park, host of Field of Dreams. YHC had forgotten the fact that Morrisville Pkwy is under construction for the rest of eternity, so I had to take the long way around, nearly making me late for my own party!

I pulled up in the M’s car and the PAX squinted to see who the heck it was. I looked at my phone and saw it was 5:44. Perfect! Just as I was getting ready to get out of M’s car, the group started slowly leaning toward the entrance of the lot, as if they were banking on a Q fartsack. Twas not the case, gentlemen! I quickly hopped out of the car, screamed at the PAX to fall in (the rain was really loud, hence the raised voice. I wasn’t angry), then sprinted to the nearest and largest picnic shelter. With the rains from the heavens coming down in droves, YHC thought it wise to keep the PAX semi-dry today. Was this a show of compassion to the PAX? Nope. They can thank the fact that, once again, I was using the M’s car. So yeah, we stayed relatively dry. As the title would suggest, today was more of a burner than a smoker. Or is it the other way around?

WARM UP

  • SSH x 20
  • Good Morning x 10
  • Merkins x 20
  • Prisoner Squats x 20

THE THANG

Lazy Dora – partner up, then as a unit complete 100 Merkins, 200 Squats, and 300 LBCs. One partner starts with an exercise and goes till he wants to stop, then the other guy picks up where he left off. While partner two is waiting, they either plank (during the merkins), squat hold (during the squats), or 6″ leg hold (during the LBCs). It was a real burner.

(YHC was thinking the Lazy Dora would take longer than 10 minutes. The PAX were fast today. Somehow a little too fast. I don’t think everyone knows how to count…)

Next, we did a round of:

  • Alternating Step ups x 20
  • Partnirkins(!!!) x 20
  • Partner Dirkins x 20
  • Dips x 20
  • Repeato

Round’o’Mary:

  • Plank-o-rama
  • Mountain Climbers x 20
  • Plank Jacks x 20
  • Box Cutters x 20 (thanks Ma Bell)
  • 1 Burpee (Franklin. Can’t say thanks for that.)
  • 9 more burpees OYO (called by Q to make up for laziness of PAX)
  • Peter Parker Peter x 10 (Thanks Beaker)
  • Maktar N’Diayes x 10 (Thanks Term Paper) (Mad respect)
  • One more PAX-called exercise, but can’t remember who or what it was.

‘Nother round of:

  • Alternating step ups x 20
  • One-legged squats x 10 each leg
  • Dips x 20
  • Repeato (maybe? It gets a little hazy when you have to audible an entire workout)

MARY

We did a lot of Mary throughout the workout. But we finished with a Captain America ladder from 1-5 then back down to 1. (Capt America = 1 WWII sit-up:4 American Hammer ratio). Last thing to round out the beatdown? Merkins x 20

COT

  • Count-o-rama: 12 PAX – 2 respect, 1 Hate, 9 mehs. An even # made the Partnirkins possible. Dreams really do come true!
  • Nam-o-rama: still 12. No FNGs
  • Annoucements: Bull, Mule, Mud Run on April 30…if interested, contact Ollie or reply to the email chain. God Bless the Cary/Apex email chain!
  • Prayer Requests: none spoken. Praise for heat!
  • YHC took us out.

NMS

  • Ma Bell remarked early on that this was as much rain as he’s seen in a very long time. In my younger days, I would have had the PAX doing merkin rolls in the parking lot. I’ve come a long way.
  • The timing of my arrival this morning couldn’t have been any better. I didn’t plan it that way, but I was happy it happened that way. I just wonder how long everyone had been standing out in the rain before I got there.
  • Who was stepping up to hijack my Q? Who was it?!?
  • I wonder if anyone was mad after realizing I wasn’t going to have us running around in the rain.
  • “You mean to tell me I stood in the rain and got completely soaked for no reason?”
  • Shut In’s TEAM FOD shirt was fire. All day long
  • We may have set a record for shortest distance covered ever during a workout.
  • Should I be ashamed?
  • I might have the most bipolar beatdowns in all of F3. Sometimes I try to fit a Murph into 45 minutes. Sometimes we travel less than 75 meters total.
  • Lazy Dora don’t play games. Chick is nuts!!
  • Ma Bell was my Dora pahtnuh this morning. As I went to finish up the Merkins, he made sure I knew he could handle more, just in case I needed the help. I let him smash the last 10 just because he made me laugh. Well done, sir.
  • By the end of the Dora, there were plumes of smoke coming from my quads.
  • #recoveronthesquat or #recoveronthesquathold…not sure either really helps the recovery process
  • The PAX were rowdy again this AM
  • I would like to thank the PAX for coordinating amongst themselves to ensure an even number for our workout this AM. Partnirkins make the world go ’round
  • Largemouth droppin’ truth bombs this AM (Yes, Franklin is a smarta$$, and Katniss really does do a great Ma Bell impersonation)
  • Moline might have been the smartest person at the workout this AM. After COT, dude waited under the shelter for a few to give Franklin time to get the car unlocked
  • Wisdom.
  • Airbag doing merkins = legendary/highly offensive/should be covered by a NatGeo reporter
  • Ok. Ima go for it. In the comments section below, sound off…Airbag doing merkins = ???
  • There were probably too many animal sounds this morning for my liking. I should take a page from Largemouth’s book and just run everyone into the ground so they can’t breathe enough to speak
  • Hard to do that under a picnic shelter
  • I hate it when I think of at least 200 other things to do, but only after the workout is over. My improv is getting shaky
  • #repeato
  • You should be glad we didn’t do Box Jump/Derkin 11s
  • It was a pleasure to lead
  • See you in the gloom
