28 PAX. 5 miles. 400 feet elevation gain. Humid as a Sahara arm pit (but in a good way). Trading in the round-and-rounds for the ups-and-downs, a large group of PAX toured the Budleigh neighborhood hills and stopped along the way to smell the roses (while doing a series of quick feet, monkey humpers, plank, and squat holds). Like Forrest Gump said, “I just started run-ning……for no particular reason”.
The Thang:
Out of Martin parking lot to Churchill to Chester to Fairview to Canterbury to Lewis Farm to Nottingham (pass local resident heckler spouting Chariots of Fire quotes from the front porch) to Darien to Dixie to Lewis Farm to Ridge Road to Martin parking lot where the Martin Middle School Marching Band played pre-football game drumline music to lead us in (not really on the band part, but that would be awesome). Made stops along the way to regroup and do some aforementioned exercises. Bust it up the hills. Cruise it down the hills (except Minnie who takes the downhills like he’s driving a stolen car).
Quick COT to avoid the first week of school traffic and in consideration of our host site, Announcements (school starting, park on street), Prayer Requests (Chong Li heading to California for 48 hour race/mental challenge/yoga retreat), and MBB led us out.
Sweat so much I didn’t need a shower before work. I have to say it was a good (start of) day. As always, grateful for the chance to lead this great group of freaks.
