Three months had elapsed since we last toured Polk Place on the Chapel Hill campus, so an invasion by 31 Pax by dawn’s early light during a summer school lull seemed right on target for the second Monday of June.
After a quick warmup on the east end of the Fetzer Field track (SSH, windmills, arm circles, Carolina dry docks and merkins), we counted off in groups of threes and jogged to the front steps of Woollen Gym. One group did derkins, one group Carolina dry docks and the third group prisoner squats to a count of 12, then rotated through so that each group did each exercise. We topped it off with one double-merkin burpee.
Then to The Pit, repeato, adding two double-merkins burpees.
Then to the front steps of Wilson Library, where the stone wall allowed us to add a dozen reps of dips, and three double-merkins burpees.
Then the same trilogy on the front steps of Carroll Hall and four double-merkins burpees.
The halfway point led us to the steps of South Building, where we knocked out derkins, CDD, dips and five double-merkins burpees.
We then circled up around the flag pole in the center of Polk Place for a quick mini-Mary—Long Slow Flutters, LBCs, 30-second bows-&-toes plank holds and Parker-Peters.
Then back to the steps at Wilson, The Pit and Woollen gym for more derkins, CDD, squats and dips and adding one more double-merkin burpee at each stop.
The festivities concluded with eight double-merkin burpees on IM field in front of Woollen Gym and a quick session of Mary: Heels to heaven, Russian hammer, WWII situps.
